A Cyber War... could it be World War III?
Today, most of the world is dominated by computers, there are millions of computers in this world. Computers are used for everything, which is why a Cyber War could be World War III. Cyber warfare involves hackers, hackers who want to cause damage. And they can cause a lot of damage, millions of pounds worth, could World War III be a Cyber War?
The Cyber War would involve two groups, the two groups would not physically fight, but attack each others computer systems, on a government level. The two opposing forces would be trying to access each others most important data. Secret documents, government information, that sort of stuff. The two groups (lets call them group A, and group B) would cyber attack each others important networks to cause damage to the infrastructure.
These groups don't necessarily have to be countries, they could be corporations, or just a large group of hackers against a group of governments. The war would start when Group A tries to hack Group B's computer systems, and B fights back, declaring a Cyber War. Group B would DDoS (Distributed Denial of Service Attack) Group A's root servers, and networking hubs. Causing the country/corporation/group's ordinary citizens to be effected. Maybe they would loose their internet, and communication methods. Next Group A would fight back by attacking Group B's networking infrastructure.
This war would continue until some serious damage is caused, and one of the groups surrenders. This war might not sound too bad because nothing would be physically damaged and nobody would be hurt. However, this is not the case, computers are a big part of ordinary day life and without them things will start to collapse, many important services rely on computers: hospitals, police, schools, security, and without those, things would start to go wrong. Obviously, the group will eventually recover, but this will take time, effort and most importantly money to put right.
It's not unlikely that Cyber Warfare will ever reach this scale, but this is possible, so watch out. I'll leave this thought in your heads.
